What comes first paint or floors?
Which comes first, the paint or the floors?
Many homeowners require painting on a regular basis. And, as the new flooring is installed, the question arises: which comes first, the paint or the floors? This article contains advice to help you decide.
Why should you paint first?
If you’re debating whether to paint or install new floors first, the answer is paint! This is why:
1. Paint can always be touched up, but floors cannot. Once floors are installed, they are permanent. So, if you want to be able to make changes later on, start with paint.
2. Paint is less expensive and easier to replace than flooring. If you don’t like the color you chose or want to change the look of your space in the future, painting is a much easier (and less expensive) solution than refinishing your floors.
3. Painting is less disruptive than laying new flooring. Painting is the way to go if you’re working on a tight timeline or budget because it doesn’t take as much time or money as installing new floors.
4. You can always add flooring later if necessary. Even if you decide you want new floors in the future, you can always install them later. However, if you wait until after you’ve installed new floors to paint, you’ll have to live with whatever color you choose until it’s time to repaint (which could be years).
